Who We Are

50 years ago, several former Whiffenpoofs and some of Yale's finest female singers realized they were missing something. They wanted to sing great music, and they wanted to sing it together. So, they founded Redhot & Blue, Yale's oldest all-gender a cappella group. Craving complex music, they turned to the jazz of Cole Porter, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong. Ever since, Redhot has brought together Yale’s best to make the blues swing and jazz sing.

Our Sound

Redhot's sound is timeless, founded in the jazz tradition of the early 20th century. Today, while we always look back on the styles of jazz’s greatest pioneers, our repertoire features a wide variety of artists, from Frank Sinatra to Fleetwood Mac. Having released 15 albums, we are soon to release our 50th-anniversary album and look forward to releasing an album every other year.

Join Us!

We tour three times a year, with expenses covered so every member can afford to see the world with us. Last year, our tours included performances at 54 Below in NYC, Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, and the U.S. Consulate in Lagos. This year: California, Texas, and Greece.

After such high-profile gigs, though, our favorite performances are often less formal: an encore at the Yale Club after a show in NYC, singing in our hometowns for family, or performing our alumni song on a stage packed with generations of alumni. This is because the most important part of Redhot & Blue is that we're a family, and we can’t wait to adopt our newest Redhotties!
