About
In 1977, several former Whiffenpoofs and some of the finest female singers on campus came together to create something Yale had never seen before: an all-gender a cappella group. They founded Redhot & Blue, bringing SATB jazz harmonies to life, inspired by the greats of the early twentieth century. Fifty years and hundreds of alumni later, Redhot and Blue’s complex arrangements and award-winning sound continue to set us apart in the music scene at Yale and across the globe. In addition to jazz standards, our repertoire has expanded to include a wide variety of genres, from Broadway hits to the Beatles to Stevie Wonder.
Bringing our complex harmonies around the globe, we tour three times a year, with expenses covered so every member can afford to see the world with us. Last year, those tours included performances at 54 Below in NYC, Baker's Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, and the U.S. Consulate in Lagos. This year: Los Angeles, California, Abilene, Texas, and Athens, Greece. Having released 15 albums, we are soon to release our 50th-anniversary album and are excited to begin recording more every other year.
Cheers to 50 years of Redhot and Blue!
